Metromotion Controls is an Ignition Gold Certified System Integrator in Mount Waverley, Melbourne, certified by Inductive Automation since 2017. We design, build and support Ignition SCADA, historian, reporting and MES functions for food, beverage and FMCG manufacturers across Australia.
Ignition suits plants that want SCADA, data and reporting on one platform with an open SQL back end. Our Ignition work covers new SCADA systems, migrations from legacy platforms, OEE and downtime reporting, CMMS integration and condition monitoring over MQTT. Every project starts from how the plant runs and who will support the system after handover, so the gateway architecture, tag model and screens stay maintainable as the site grows.
Ignition covers SCADA screens, alarming, historian, reporting and integration from one gateway, with data stored in standard SQL databases. That makes it a practical base for plants that want the control room and the production data on the same platform, and for MES functions that grow out of SCADA rather than sitting beside it.
Our Ignition projects span process control, production data and maintenance integration. Each one is documented as a case study on this site.
Most Ignition work in established plants replaces an older SCADA or a set of standalone HMIs. We audit the existing tags, alarms, screens and scripts first, decide what to carry over and what to retire, and build the Ignition tag model with user-defined types so each machine type is engineered once. Cutover is staged by area or line, often with the old and new systems running side by side until operators have signed off. On the McCormick CIP migration, the move to Ignition was planned and executed to keep production running throughout. Where the controllers are also due for replacement, the SCADA migration is planned alongside the automation upgrades so each shutdown is used once.
An Ignition system is easy to start and easy to let sprawl. We size the gateway for the tag count, clients and history the site will need, decide early on redundancy with a warm or cold standby gateway, and use Ignition Edge and MQTT where remote or high-volume data collection makes sense. Naming standards, user-defined types, project inheritance and version-controlled exports keep the system maintainable by the next engineer. The gateway sits on a segmented OT network with governed, secure remote access for support.
Ignition is licensed by the server rather than by tag or client, and since 2023 it has been sold and supported locally by Inductive Automation Australia. We help sites choose the gateway licences and modules they need for the scope, and we support Ignition systems after handover under automation support agreements, including systems another integrator originally built after an initial audit of the gateway, projects and backups.
Yes. Metromotion Controls has been an Ignition Gold Certified System Integrator since 2017 and is listed in the Inductive Automation integrator directory.
Usually, yes. We audit the existing tags, alarms, screens and scripts, rebuild them on a structured Ignition tag model and cut over by area or line, often running old and new side by side until operators sign off.
Yes. Ignition stores data in standard SQL databases and supports MES modules, so order tracking, downtime by order, lot records and ERP posting can be built on the same platform as SCADA. For multi-site or regulated batch-record requirements, an enterprise MES may still be the better fit.
Perspective runs in any browser and suits mobile, remote and new projects. Vision is a desktop client that suits existing Vision projects and fixed operator stations. Many sites choose Perspective for new work and keep Vision screens until they are due for replacement.
Yes. We start with an audit of the gateway, projects, tag model, backups and licences, fix anything that puts production at risk, and then support the system under an agreed support arrangement.

McCormick is one of the world's largest spice and flavouring manufacturers, with production facilities across Australia. When the team needed to migrate a critical Clean-In-Place system to a modern, maintainable platform, Metromotion Controls delivered a full migration to Ignition SCADA with integrated database, multi-terminal operator access, and a distributed control architecture spanning the facility. CIP systems are production-critical in any flavouring or seasoning environment, and the migration was planned and executed to maintain production continuity throughout.
Remedy Drinks is one of Australia's fastest-growing beverage producers, known for its kombucha and low-sugar drink range. As production volumes grew, the maintenance team needed a tighter connection between the plant floor and their MEX CMMS system. Metromotion Controls designed and delivered the integration between the Ignition SCADA platform and MEX, enabling automatic work order creation from plant events and giving the maintenance team structured visibility of asset status without manual data re-entry.
Cobs Fine Foods is one of Australia's leading premium snack manufacturers. The business needed real-time production data from all line equipment, including checkweigher and metal detector systems, connected to a centralised OEE platform provided by a third-party vendor. Metromotion Controls designed and delivered the automation integration layer, connecting each line asset to Ignition, capturing data at PLC level, and passing it upstream to the OFS OEE platform. The project included full network architecture design, device configuration, and the PLC logic required for clean, consistent data capture across the line.
